I was like Kato Kaelin back in the day when my best friend was married to someone who owned a beach front home in Sea Girt. We'd wake up, go out the back door and go fishing on the beach. Boy do I miss those days and his ex-wife.... lol.
We live in the town in the middle of the Bergen county for the last five years. Unfortunately, never went to NJ shore in season. All we are hearing from people is crazy traffic, heat and crowds. Not very appealing at all... Families we know leave their houses to go to the beach between 5:00 and 6:00 am. That just seems crazy to us as we are not early raisers. We actually went to Rockaway beach in Queens a few times and the traffic was moderate. So if anyone here can recomment a non crowded beach accessible from Norther NJ, I would appreciate it.
Also, has anyone taken an NJT coast Line to the beach? Any idea if it stops within walking distance to some decent beach? Or perhaps there are some shuttles from the train?

Sadly for you, the only train station that actually was within walking distance to a public beach (IMO) ceased its run in 1954. It was in Highlands and the public beach there was free and open to all but it also is not the kind of beach that would attract people other than those in town.
There are trains that head further south to Asbury Park and other beach towns but the beaches are much further away than a walk. I suppose you could take a cab from the train station but I have no idea if cabs are available in those towns.

To avoid the crazy traffic: First, do not go on the weekend or holiday. If you really want to go to a NJ beach in season from Bergen County, you will need to rent a beach house, plan an overnight stay in a local hotel, or deal with the traffic.
Heat: As for the heat, ummm, it's NJ and summer and without the heat, what's the point of being at the beach?
Crowds? It's NJ so there's crowds everywhere all the time. And you want no crowds at the beach in the summer and, I assume, on the weekend? Take a day off work and go during the week.
You've made your point... I'll take paying for the beach over sharks any day.
