Hello, I currently live in Jersey City, NJ and looking to make a move to southern NJ. By southern, I mean south to me I suppose. I am interested in towns that have the full package, good commute to NYC, good schools as I have two kids (ages 6 and 10), more land for the buck as I have a large family and looking to throw a lot of BBQ parties during summer.
I have been attending open houses in Bridgewater, Piscataway, Edison areas. Edison seems too crowded (almost reminds me of Jersey City), Bridgewater is good with good schools from what I hear, but less diverse which scares me since I am south east asian. Piscataway seems to be middle of the road town with OK houses and OK schools with options available for commuting to NYC as well. Some friends are recommending Brunswicks, especially East Brunswick(EB). But EB doesn't have a train option and I don't know if buses are more reliable than trains since I have never taken them. I was asked to stay away from New and North Brunswicks by friends because they too are getting very crowded.
What other good options are available. Am I missing any good towns? My price range is 500K-550K. Any other ideas?
Thank you in advanced for all your feedback.
Those towns you mention are considered "Central" Jersey. Edison has close to 100k residents, which many people don't realize. It's more of a small city than a suburban town. You could try Metuchen which is actually a small borough surrounded by Edison. Similarly you could check Highland Park.
Bridgewater has a large population of Chinese + Indians. Not as large as Edison, but still quite significant compared to virtually anywhere else. Commute to NYC is long.
New Providence has two rail stations and a NYC bus plus great schools. It has a few choices in that price range and more if you could expand by another $50k to $600k.

There aren't a lot of Asians in New Providence, however.
South Brunswick and Bridgewater are good options. Skip Piscataway, Edison and North Brunswick.
You might also want to consider Greenbrook, Watchung and Warren but you'd have less property. Mountainside is a great NYC commute and schools but only if you can expand your budget a little bit or are willing to buy a fixer upper. Same is true for Scotch Plains/Fanwood. Less property but a train/bus option.

What's wrong with North Brunswick and Piscataway besides the fact they're not Alpine or Rumson?
New Providence is at least 10% East Asian and another 10% South Asian. If you add in neighboring Berkeley Heights, the percentages are higher.
That's wrong. Where are you getting this information?
