Hackettstown/Allamuchy ? relocation from Massachusetts (Little Falls, Boonton: best town, house, schools)

hi everyone
my husband's company will be relocating to Roseland, NJ. We are from Massachusetts. it is killing me to relocate from one very expensive state to another. We have been looking at PA - but it looks like many of the towns are just down-right dangerous in PA!! Lots of crime.

Is the hackettstown area worth the $$ ? This is the best town I have seen in the area re: schools for my girls, etc. I want a safe community, quiet, easy-going lifestyle for my family. Not rushing, etc.

WE pay about $7000 in property taxes here in Mass. i am a nervous wreck to hear how exp. it is out there in NJ!

Hackettstown is a nice area but thats going to be a really long commute. Under the best of circumstances about 45 minutes, but probably more like an hour during rush hour (especially going west on I-80 past Denville is bad in the evening).

Have you considered towns that are somewhat closer? Parsippany (Lake Hiawatha area of Parsippany), Boonton, Rockaway, one of the Caldwells, East Hanover, Fairfield, Little Falls, etc are probably a much easier commute than driving all the way from Hackettstown.

What price range for a house are you looking for? Perhaps someone here could steer you in the right direction.
