If the drums were still in the garage during the final walk-through, shouldn't this have been addressed at the closing??
I don't know how much luck you are going to have with the seller if you already signed all the papers and they walked away with their money. We've had closings delayed b/c of much less worrisome issues that were not addressed.
If you don't know what is in the drums, that can be a big problem for you. There were abandoned drums on an empty lot in a town where I worked and it resulted in a full-blown HazMat response. We're talking police, fire, hazmat team - Level A protection........... The seller probably left them there because THEY did not want to have to deal with it. At the very least you need to find out what you are dealing with (from the seller) if that is possible. We also had a case where a University professor passed away and his wife found a cabinet full of chemicals - that were labeled. One little bottle said "picric acid" and it was just sitting there dusty on the shelf - looking like no big deal. But the instant the HazMat team saw this they immediately vacated the premises and had the people in the neighboring houses evacuated too. If you google picric acid - you will understand why. But this stuff had been sitting there for YEARS and no one knew it. Needless to say the BOMB SQUAD had to come and deal with it.
Be careful with your drums and good luck!! Hope you can find out what is in them!!!
