Union City is in pretty good shape for its situation (crime rate, homes)

I was reading how Union City is one of the poorest cities in the country. Yet despite this, Union City does not seem so blighted as other areas. You don’t see buildings with boarded up windows, big vacant lots, the homes are not in that bad shape, the crime rate is not insanely high, and there are many stores and restaurants. There are even some big chain stores here. I guess the reason why Union City is not as bad as other poor areas is because of immigration. Most of the people in Union City are immigrants. I know that Cubans came here in droves and it looks like they helped this town thrive with businesses and fixed the homes here. Even though many Cubans have left, today Union City has a diverse Hispanic population and this is what makes the town so beautiful. There are Salvadorans, Hondurans, Cubans, Dominicans, Puerto Ricans, Mexicans, Peruvians, Colombians, Ecuadorians, Argentines, Uruguayans, and Venezuelans. I have never been to a place with such a diverse Hispanic population. The city has good restaurants and there is good choice of different Latino restaurants. One grocery store had products from different parts of Latin America.

I believe the proper term is Latinos when talking about those of Latin American descent.

Hispanic refers to those who come from Spanish speaking countries. A person can be both Hispanic and Latino. Cuba, Mexico, the Dominican Republic, Peru, and Honduras are Spanish speaking countries therefore the people that come from these countries are Hispanic. However one might not be both. For example a Brazilian is a Latino because he or she is from Latin America but is not Hispanic because Brazil is not a Spanish speaking country.
