Since their prices are a ripoff, I don't go to either one.
It really depends on exactly what you buy, so you need to do some careful comparison shopping.
As I have factually pointed-out on previous occasions, there are items at Whole Foods that are cheaper than at Shop-Rite and Wegmans supermarkets, and even cheaper as compared to Trader Joe's. No, not everything is lower-priced, but there are enough of those items that I do make a weekly trip to Whole Foods, and I save money in the process.
Wegmans has been trying to open a new location in Hanover, but Shop-Rite sued to block them. It's currently supposed to open next year.
While competition is good, for supermarkets it can be bad overall. Rarely you have 2 competing supermarkets that can last years without one closing down unless there's enough local resident that depend on one than the other. Once competition is over, prices go up.

Lots of places have 2 (or more) competing supermarkets.
If it bothers you that much, simply ignore the thread. I didn't see the point in opening up a new thread since this one already existed and there was even a post that mentioned the possibility of a Wegmans opening up in Hanover.
I would like to check out this store. Think it will have any impact on the supermarket business in the area?
Will it have any impact on the supermarket business in the area?!? It's consistently ranked the best supermarket chain in the country... with good reason. Someone on another forum I frequent said the Morristown Shop-Rite put out some crazy good coupons this week. Wonder why...
With that being said, as wonderful as Wegman's is, they can be expensive for some items. Even though the quality is terrific, sometimes I need to get $.25 bottles of seltzer and $.99 loaves of bread at Shop-Rite.
Shop-Rite ain't going anywhere. But maybe Acme and Stop & Shop, which both seem to share the motto "The Highest Prices for the Lowest Quality and Worst Customer Service", can start packing their bags.
