You can zoom in on the map page and scroll around,,,,from past personal experience you would need to take the easiest way, least traffic, often times I would go online just before leaving and see where the traffic is.

You can see by the map you can drive down along the waterfront through Jersey City then out as if you were coming out the Holland Tunnel or further down and out along US Truck 1&9 towards Newark,,,,

NJ 7 West towards I-280,,,,or take Fish House Road which is usually clear and hooks up with Truck 1&9 close to Newark.

Otherwise go West over NJ 3 and either NJ 21 or GSP back down towards Edison. GSP from NJ 3 south, you would hit a $1.50 toll booth one way South in Bloomfield, I mention that since you are trying to avoid tolls.

In Google Maps you can turn on the traffic layer which gives you orange and red displays on the slow roads. Waze is similar.

Also you can install Waze free on your phone, just pay attention to driving first, accidents are much more expensive then traffic or tolls very easy for anyone to get easily distracted, especially in rush hour,,,,big $$$ mess you nor no one wants.

The Skyway portion of US 1&9 is open going west only for the past several years while its being rebuilt. That is another way to escape.
