I ask because someone is putting up signs for political campaigning or garage sales in front of my sidewalk grass.

These people never asked for permission. Are they allowed to do that? References to support your claim would be helpful.

Good question. When I lived in Midland Park you were expected to shovel the sidewalk in front of your house when it snowed, and I know my mother gets asked if they can put signs on her lawn because she's on a corner, but there's no sidewalks where she lives, so that's a little different.

Might be something you want to ask your town. A quick call to the borough clerk would get the answer.

Thanks. I called our police department and they said it was illegal to do so without the permission of the homeowner. I may or may not have minded this sign, but I am a little upset (I'm not angry) why they didn't just ask us and instead plonked down a sign without asking.

Many towns have passed ordinances to prohibite the placing of advertising signs without permits. This prevents hundreds of signs being posted that are never removed.

I never allowed political signs on my property regardless of my support or lack of for that person.
