My advise from renovating my kitchen last year is that it's not so much the salesperson that you should be wary of, but the subcontractor who will be installing your kitchen. E.g. I went to Pugliese and the salespeople and pricing were fine, but when I asked them about how the process would work after I place an order, that went downhill fast. They have ONE contractor they recommend, unless you have your own general contractor who is organizing the whole thing, and you have to go through their contractor who will schedule a time to confirm kitchen measurements, then gut cabinets, then pick up and assemble cabinets, then install cabinets. Their contractor's calendar was so busy he didn't call me back until I had been using my new kitchen for two months already.
I didn't even get a chance to vet their guy's quality and check references, but I imagine if your kitchen store has a short list of contractors, the quality of those contractors matter WAY more than the attitude of the salespeople.
