Don't mislead people. If your property taxes are 6K in Cranford you are living in a very small home with a market value of well below 400K, which gets you nothing in Cranford. Look at recent home sales and the public tax records (all available on Zillow). Even houses sold in the low to mid 300s see taxes up to 10K.

Taxes in Cranford are pretty standard for Union County. For a house around 500K you can expect to pay between 11-14K, on the higher end for an updated home.

I commute from Cranford to NYC every day. The commute is pretty good for the burbs, but going to midtown is a pain. Much better if you commute downtown near World Trade and can switch to the PATH at Newark.

Oh, good to know that we have nothing then. We literally have twice the space we had in Manhattan for the same price but now have a yard.

You should try to stop keeping up with the Jones' and find what makes you happy. Costs a lot less.

Nothing to do with that. You painted a picture of Cranford being this overly affordable place to live. It's not. Taxes are fairly high in Union County.

Stop projecting your insecurities on the board. Cranford is becoming an affluent area now so you better get used to people making those types of comments without getting butt hurt.

Taxes are high in New Jersey. Taxes are higher in Essex. Cranford has no full time fire department, for example, keeping it an affordable area in comparison to other similar areas.

Seriously, look for taxes in other neighboring counties an hour away from Manhattan. It is affordable in comparison.
