So we have a problem with our new rescue Charlie (treeing walker coonhound), had him 8 weeks and he is two years old. He pees anytime I (male) put his harness on to go for a walk. He never does this for my wife. My wife has not been dominite like I am. She definitely babies him,and he does not respond to commands to her like he does to me.

He will listen to me, do commands, expose his belly with tail down, etc.

How do I get him to stop peeing when I put his leash on??

Since your question isn't truly NJ-centric, I think that it would make much more sense to place your post in a forum that is pet-related. That way, it will receive much more exposure to folks who may have some expertise in dog behavior modification.

Wouldn't this forum> http://www.city-data.com/forum/dogs/ make much more sense for your post?

Agree post will get a lot more helpful information in the Dogs forum. Do the mods have to move a post, or can the OP do it?

I think that it would be very instructive for the OP to access the Dog Forum and re-post it himself.

Good luck with the treeing walker!
I have two.

I miss my black and tan coonhounds, world's best dogs. Night and day from the Walkers

The Walkers have a mind of their own and don't seem to get with the rules. the male has a prehensile nose and opens the grabage draw and doors like Houdini. the female jumped thru the screen window twice. Counter top is not off limits depsite all the effort to make them stop.

Try a chain collar instead of the harness just as an experiment and make him sit while you do it.

Maybe give him a treat when you harness him to divert his attention as they can't do two things at once.

Simple, just let your wife walk the dog, problem solved :-)
