I do not recommend those areas. Someone mentioned Mt. Laurel, that's nice. I wouldn't go any further south than there. Mt. Laurel area is pushing 30 minutes so you don't want to go any further.
I think that if you really want a single family home your options are very limited with that price unless you're looking at tiny 2-3 br fixer-uppers, you may end up with a condo or a townhome. I live in Lawrenceville and you can find a small fixer-upper for about $260,000. |

I recommend the Bordentown, Columbus, and Chesterfield area. Bordentown you can definately find something, and its a nice area. Columbus is a real small town feel, If you like that you may find something there, like a row home or a small ranch. And in Chesterfield there are 2 homes I can think of on the market right now that fit your needs. Both are 3 bdr 1 bath ranches - one is listed at 299K the other at 259K - and the 259K has a bigger yard, but is on a busier (but not way busy) road. If you would like the name of a realtor I have a great one....just PM me.

I'm sure, like someone else posted, you could find a cape cod in Edison that would just require some TLC.
Good luck!! |

I know you said you didn't want to go south, but perhaps there are some parts of Lawrencville you could get a decent deal...It'll be tough but at that budget it would be better then some of the alternatives. Maybe there would be a fixer upper on the border of Princeton - maybe you could send the kids to a parochial H.S. at a fraction of the private school tuition...Just some ideas that I hope are helpful... it is hard being middle class in this state.

Lawrenceville, Ewing, East Windsor, Hightstown.
Trouble with North is that a. it is pricey and b. anywhere affordable will be a ***** of a commute due to the general impassability of 206. |

How about Frenchtown? I think that's close to Princeton or at least within 30 miles. Great little Town and you can take advantage of the Hunterdon Co. School systems. Nice artsy town... I'm sure you can find something - fixer upper for under 300K

Plainsboro has a top-notch school district, and you could get a townhome for that price range. Your money will go further in East Windsor, which I think is underrated and overshadowed by West Windsor. You might also consider Hamilton, Ewing, Lawrence, and Bordentown.

What exit is Princeton 67? From Cinnaminson he'd be getting on at exit 40 or so.. so that's 27 miles on 295. You can get a sweet house here for under 300k no prob. |
