Southern NJ feel, yes. But "southern feel", as if we all have a drawl and the magnolias scent the air everywhere? No.
I had to laugh at this. No drawls down there, and grits aren't served with every breakfast whether you want them or not. When I lived in North Carolina, it really did remind me of New Jersey. It was flat, sandy, had pine trees and small towns. Driving along the country roads felt the same as driving through lower Burlington, Salem and Cumberland.

I share the OP's sentinment. Honestly the only reason I am here is family. Other than that, so many other states offer just as strong job markets, with much less tax, and a much more reasonable quality of life (Arizona, MD, TX, NV, large parts of MI, FL, GA). I think for the majority of the middle class in NJ and NY, most will never have the QOL or income level of their parents, this seems to be true natonwide and in NJ's most densely populated counties. Finance was the largest industry here and it will never be like it was in 2009 and a large consequence of that were the markets that depended on Finance like Manufacturing Housing

Also being so heavily dependent on NYC for its major industries means LONG commutes. A conequence of massive corruption over the course of DECADES means that city and state governments failed to build infastructure (railways/bridges) that would ease traffic, but now we used that land to build real estate, so no more ability to build needed infastructure.

Honestly people need to go live in DC Maryland Virginia. It''s just a better version of NJ NY PA, less taxes, more land, yet great infastructure (how a city like DC with half of NYC's population can have four lane highways while most of the routes into NYC from NJ are 2 way is ****ED up, states that have a quarter of the population and money that NJ and NY do can make great highway systems but we just can't seem to), while mantaining a large cosmopolitan culture, also very similar differences (ie more conservatie open gun culture in VA compared to DC or MD, kind of like in PA compared to NJ and NY)

Other than that, I can honestly say I am not a fan of Monmouth County at all. I seriously cannot think of ONE town in Monmouth County that I would want to live in. And it does tend to be quite trashy throughout, as it is a very low "class" of people in nature all living well beyond their means. More "trashy flash" than "classy upscale" if you understand that, spending as they earn with no savings. Psychopaths, and loads upon LOADS of "BENNYs" as you call them, constantly clashing with the ever-so cliquey, insular, know-it-all, passive aggressive locals that are forever unwelcoming toward outsiders. Bruce Springsteen can keep that armpit of the state.
spring lake, sea girt, avon, brielle, etc.

TRASHY?!

yea, OK

Not to mention the immediate beach areas of Long Branch and Asbury (including its boardwalk) are awesome.

Gotta love it. Another "sh*t on NJ" thread where people come out of the woodwork and no one knows what they're talking about.

Actually, I am not from Monmouth County nor do I live there, but I do have family there and overall I do really like the county!

I do enjoy how when faced with rebuttal to the all of monmouth county is trashy by being supplied with nicer parts (among the nicest in the nation) the comeback is "no it sucks, here are some trashy parts..."

Yup, as if there aren't trashy parts everywhere in the country. Like others have said, I'm sick of people acting like NJ is the only place with traffic, strip malls, high crime cities, trashy areas, etc. NJ is one of the most made fun of/hated states, yet 1. every other state has all these same things, and 2. NJ is actually one of the wealthiest and mode educated (and popular based on density) states in the country so besides the politics/corruption issues... what's the problem?? We have beaches, mountains (not the biggest or best but they're there and we're also close to PA and NY mountains), we border major cities, we have hilly areas, rural areas, our own decent cities, 4 seasons all packed into a small state... what exactly is so bad? Anyone who buys into NJ stereotypes would think it's gross and dirty and ugly here but anyone with a brain knows it's not and knows where to go for beauty, so I would just love to know why it's always NJ that gets this hate.

Then we have people in threads like this always coming in with new accounts and/or no rep points to come tell us some more how much NJ sucks... please.

Move to the DC area for a better commute? That's the funniest thing I've read all week.

Exactly. I nearly busted a gut. DC traffic is beyond awful and the only place in NJ I can think of that rivals it may be Rt 80 to the GWB. Maybe Lincoln and Holland but the entire DC metro traffic is a major sh** show.

This is indisputable NJ NYC has the longest average commute in the nation PERIOD. I lived in both Reston and Silver Spring, you're joking, the commute into DC was a breeze, only an idiot commutes into the city in a car
