I lived over the bridge in Fair Lawn....Paterson is not a place you wanna hang out in! Lots of drug activity and crime! A small version of Camden.

Paterson is bigger than Camden. ^^^ ( over 150,000 residents) It's more like the other way around. Though, Paterson doesn't have the shootings and murders like Camden.

I had a job interview in Paterson a couple years ago and all it took was ten minutes for me to drive along the Main Street to realize how crime infested it is. I canceled my interview from the car and headed home.

What street was this "Main St." Because don't tell me it was Main St. itself, because if it was, man you scare easily.

Wow
People blow paterson way out of proportion. It isn't all that bad. There are just a lot of suburban ethnocentric people living around Paterson who have a distorted perception of the city because people get shot there once in a while.
The fact is, it is usually drug/gang related.
However, I will say that a cop was shot in the head in the middle of the day at a fried chicken restaurant (on Main St. i believe) last year. The perp (an Irvington man i think) was attempting to rob him for like 5 dollars or something.
Its incidents like this that can sway ones perception.
Also, a lot of kids from the suburbs of Bergen/Passaic counties go to the projects in Paterson to get Heroin and Coke. But these types of things happen in most cities across the nation.
Let's all just agree that Camden, Newark, Paterson, Gary, Indiana, North Jacksonville, FL, Southside of Chicago, Brooklyn, etc...are not the places to move to if you're looking for beaver clever.

*sigh* That incident did not happen in the middle of the day, it was 1:30 AM and the cop was off-duty. Not saying that makes it right, but let's get our facts straight.

I love the post a few posts up:
"Paterson isn't all that bad- most of the crimes/shootings are drug/gang related". Sorry, but if there's enough drug/gang activity in an area that there are shootings happening on a regular enough basis that they get listed as "usually drug/gang related", that's not an area that I'd call "not all that bad". "Not all that bad" to me means that there aren't any shootings going on, and if there is one, it's a major event- not "just another drug/gang related shooting"................
And yes, an incident like a cop getting shot in the head at a restaurant (regardless of the time of day) does tend to "sway one's perception of an area"......
