If you don't think it is, go ask Chris Rock, Carlos Mencia, Eddie Griffith or any other comedian out there. Is the absurdity of it all that makes it funny.

Using the "N" word and pointing out absurdity in stereotypes and generalizations are 2 different things. yet it's "Ok" for a black/minority comedian to use terms like "Cracka". The only reason Michael Richards was singled out like that was because of that, because he was white. I don't see the media going bananas after someone like Mencia and we all know how righteous he is, don't we?

yet, if its "okay"for minority comedians to use racial slurs, then why are people like yourself continue to chastise their behavior? I'll will not deviate from this thread any longer. If you wish to continue, please PM me your response.

Ok I am officially afraid of this town. I was on my way to the bus station downtown to pick up my mate at about 11:30pm. We can talk about the people with the plastic table and chairs who were in front of a house playing spades. We can talk about the people that were sitting on the large metal box on the corner or just conjugating on any corner or any block. Hell we can even talk about the car that blew past a stop sign and could have killed me if I had been going a little faster to get the hell out f dodge. People constantly ask me why I don't go to the Walgreens on Ellison st. instead of going to the Walgreens in Elmwood Park. Elmwood Park is closer but anyway back to my original point. I don't know about anyone else but I like to buy my milk and magazines without crazy bums yelling profanities in front of the store or prostitutes or women just dressed as prostitutes lingering in the store or in the parking lot. All this goes on while a cop is inside standing near the registers. Oh how I used to get angry and put up a nice fight against people who labeled Paterson especially those that don't live here. But alas I can no longer defend you Paterson as I too am afraid of you and can see why those who drive through when the sun goes down would rather roll up their windows in 100 degree weather, than roll down the window and look at the filth that has taken over this town.

Neekah, I feel you. I rarely go to the Walgreen's on Ellison Place myself. Besides the fact that the location in Elmwood Park is within walking distance of my house, there are some shady characters in that neighborhood after the sun goes down.
But again, when I try to defend Paterson, I'm in no way defending that neighborhood. That area of Paterson (along with parts of the Northside) is the reason why people who don't live in Paterson have the opinion they do of this town. I wish that we could bulldoze that whole neighborhood and start over.
You know, cities like Boston, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Sacramento, and Las Vegas all have a higher crime rate than Paterson. In fact, Paterson is not even in the top 20 or 30 of any national list of cities ranking violent crimes, murders, etc. for cities over 100,000, but it's clear from reading this thread that we have an image problem.

Image is everything nowadays. It like when people tell me: " New York is the safest big city in America!" Then I say to myself: " Ask some kid in the projects in the South Bronx, Harlem, or parts of Queens or Brooklyn is NY that 'safe'" Paterson is a tough and gritty town, though it is relative to where you are and quite frankly, where you're from. Part of the reason I know many of my friends aren't afraid of Paterson is because
a: they were born there and are quite used to the area.
b: most of my friends hail from different countries. And if you think poverty and crime is bad, just wait and see how some cities like Bogotá, Guatemala City, Sao Paulo, Kingston, or Mexico City, stack up against Paterson or even Newark.

Vegas is much bigger then Paterson.
Paterson has a only around 150,000 people.
