^^^ I know what you mean. Though, it is amazing to see so much diversity in one city.

No matter, unless you have an Elephant rifle by your side, dont get out of the car there. Those poor people hear gun fire and dont even flinch. They dont even hit the deck. They are immune to gun fire.

Paterson is urban, period. Watch the movie "Lean on me" , you'll get a gist of the city now add alot more hispanic residents. I hang out in Paterson, no one bothers you, unless you're nosey, like any other urban enviroment. Stick to yourself and you'll be fine. There are plenty of great restaurants, bars, and lounges in Paterson to hang out in. And there also nicer areas of Paterson if you're thinking of home shopping. Maybe I'm wierd, but I love diversity. Too many are stuck in a "suburban box" and can't escape it for a second.

I hope your reason for saying that is A) you know some people are small minded and are referring to them or B) since we keep bombing the middle east, it's not a good place to be unless you like looking to the sky.
In any case, I'd like to thank some of you for honestly reviewing Paterson for me. I was thinking of going to see the Great Falls and was considering taking the train, since it's only a mile away. I wanted to see whether that was considered safe enough to walk. Bear in mind, I live in downtown Newark and hear all of the asinine things people say in the beginning of this thread. Now I have to ask, why do these know-nothings bother to write? Because they've heard Newark et. al. is bad? Because a relative says it's bad? I think people ask because they want to know, not because they are curious what dopey stereotypes you have.
In any case, it sounds like I should be fine. I personally have only ever been on foot at Broadway and Madison waiting for a bus. I've driven through there a few times by the Morlot Ave bridge towards downtown, and driven through between Wayne and Route 46 coming from William Paterson, so I really don't know. I've also been to the White Castle and both Checkers'.
Neat to know there are some places worth visiting for food there too.

^^ one mistake people make in urban areas like Paterson, Newark, NYC, etc is they let their fear because visible. I'm not saying don't be afraid; I'm a little uneasy if I'm new to a place, too. What I'm saying is this: Don't let your fear cripple you. People are pretty good at knowing if you're new or not. If you act like you're afraid something is going to happen to you, chances are something will. As for the Great Falls, you should be fine if you use the train. It will let you off at the cornor of Market and Ward St. The falls is just a walk away.

In fact, there are. Market St., downtown, has some GREAT Peruvian restaurants. South Paterson has a lot of Middle Eastern and Turkish restaurants as well.

Since people here are mentioning restaurants, it reminds me of something:
I was at a restaurant in Paterson that specializes in Chinese and Hispanic food (Goody's, I recommend it!). A lady walks into the restaurant and loudly asks the workers "I parked my car around the corner; will it be safe there? Will it get stolen? Will I be ok walking around here?" Mind you it was about 4:30 pm. I gave her a look, letting her know how ridiculous she sounded. People like this annoy me.
