It's not RAINING on someone's parade..and PLEASE point out to me where I've condemned the poster or mentioned scary alleys...don't put DRAMA where there is none
It's giving an honest answer being I'm familiar with the area....that's why people come to the forum to ask questions and see what people have to say..Victory Gardens is NOT one of the best areas in Morris County..that said if that's where poster buys I wish them all the luck
You yourself said you are NOT familiar with Victory Gardens...well before you jump all over my answer why don't you familiarize yourself with the place

We have made the offer on the house in Victory Gardens, since it is one of the best deals in our price range out there. Unfortunately, since we're in a 'one-income' situation, money *is* an option, so if we end up getting this house, I will have to deal with the schooling situation as best as possible. I did find out that there is the option of taking my son to some public elementary schools outside of the Dover school district, but would have to pay tuition. Which I am willing to do for a good public school.
|
Good luck to you...which district will let you send your child??
Hopefully they won't charge to much tuition

clever idea OP - I would have never thought to call other public schools to see if you can get your kids in...Randolph is great, Denville is great. This is good to know that that option is available as alot of people can't afford to fork over 10K a year for a private school. Oh and congrats - fingers crossed it all works out for you.

wileynj - the problem with trying to go to an out of district school is that they are probably going to want the "full fare" to go to their district, assuming they are willing to take the kid in the first place. If the cost per pupil is $14,000 say, in Randolph, that is what they are going to charge. Victory Gardens isn't going to want to chip-in either. If this process were easy, cheap and popular half of Dover would be going to Randolph. Catholic school may actually be cheaper.
BTW, Victory Gardens was split off from Randolph in 1954, because the Republicans in town didn't want the poor Democrats who lived in VG, sullying their "purity" so it was "spun off".

Hmm you may be correct
I know Pope John HS in Sparta is up to *GASP* $11K but the elementary schools are usually cheaper...expensive still but cheaper then HS
You also have to provide your own transportation being as VG goes to Dover Public schools they may provide transportation to Sacred Heart in Dover
I know Jefferson provides transportation to Pope John and the Rev Brown elementary in Sparta

Hummm....I see - not a cheap option then to try and transfer your kid from one town to another. We have Blair Academy by me and I think it's a round 10K/year. But is there really a benefit to sending your kid to private school? I just had someone tell me that their kid, who goes to Pope John..didn't do too well on her SATs? What was the point then? I can see avoiding bad schools this way, but if you're in a town with decent schools or even average schools... why waste the money? Private schools have their issues / drug issues as well.

wiley - Blair Academy is a lot more than 10k - closer to 40k from what I've heard. Those horses aren't cheap! I know a lot of kids that went to Catholic Schools in the 60's and couldn't get high enough scores on their SATs to get into William Paterson or Montclair. I went to JFK in Paterson and a lot of the kids there, got SAT scores that would've done Ridgewood or Colts Neck HS's proud. Sadly, that's not the case anymore, but a smart student can overcome a so-so school!

40K per year??? That's crazy! A woman I do some volunteer work with, sends her kid(s) there and when she said 40, I thought she meant for 4 years! Guess she's loaded then..lol : )) It doesn't look like much..I use to go over on sundays to play a little golf at their 9 hole course... that can't be right... who would spend that on a high school ed????? Besides the filthy rich???
