Dover school system
Hello, I hope to find some answers to a question that increasingly concerns me. We have been looking at houses to buy in Morris county, and might have found a really nice one in Victory Gardens, Dover. Now, before we make the final decision to buy it, I would like to know what the Dover school district is like. Any forum members with elementary-school kids out there who can give me some suggestions/insights/comments about the schools? What I've heard about the Dover school district so far is not encouraging. Are there any good private schools in the area (as a second option)?

Sorry, but what you have heard is correct. The schools in Dover are fairly bad, in fact they are rated the worst in Morris county. Private schools would be my choice, of which there are plenty to chose from in the nearby (Morristown) area. However, if you are going to ante up for private schools why not look at one of the neighboring towns to Dover, with much better schools?

UKOK - If she/he looking in Victory Gardens they're probably looking in the 300+ - K range. A better bet, in that area, in that price range might be Rockaway Borough or even White Meadow Lakes - much better schools systems and only a stones throw away from Dover.

Thank you. The more info I'm gathering about the public school system, the more I'm beginning to realize that private school will have to be the way to go. And since Dover doesn't seem to have much to offer in the private education field, either, I am hoping that the private schools in the surrounding areas will be admitting students from that school district.

You have St Mary's in Wharton
St Cecelia in Rockaway and Sacred heart in Dover..all very $$$$
plus you need to look into transportation..Dover may transport to sacred heart but that would be it.
Dover public schools have many many non english speaking students which holds up the show.
Victory gardens....how much time have you spent there?? If you are not already locked in I would look elswhere
That place is not that great..you get no service from Dover police you have to call State police...most of those houses are pre WWII as a matter of fact most were army housing back during then

Actually, I over estimated - looks like under 300k and even some under 200K. It's actually a cute little development - too bad it's tied to Dover ; (((Those private schools...All Catholic? OP - I went on the gsmls site and there's a few homes in both Rockaway Borough and Rockaway Twp. in that price range...you really should take a look before choosing Victory Gardens - even if you have to spend a few bucks more...you'll save it in Private school fees.

But in reality it's not tied to Dover except for schools.
Dover police do not patrol, VG does not have it's own force so State Police respond there.
They do/did (?) have their own municipal court
