Default Hawthorne....how disruptive is the quarry?

We are considering moving to Hawthorne and our kids will attend Washington Elementary School. How loud is the quarry on a daily basis? Is there a frequent blasting schedule? Is it year round? What is the trucking traffic like? What route does it usually take?

TIA!

If you look at google earth there is a huge stone quarry above the town of Hawthorne, I think it's actually in Prospect Park, it's part of Hofstra Park. Your reply makes me think it's not too noisy. When you are on Goffle Road for example it looks like it's just a wooded hillside, but from the sky it's a huge quarry.

Maybe it's different if you are up near Prospect Park. We were over by Warburton and Lincoln and didn't hear anything.

I agree...I moved to Hawthorne last month (one block away from Wyckoff township) and I haven't heard anything yet (maybe a freight train horn off to the distance at night)...but that's it.

Default Prospect Park quarry

I live a few houses outside the entrance - it is a nighmare!
the blast is only about once a day BUT...
The trucks (lots and lots of trucks) line up and block the streets
Don't share the road, you can hardly go down 8th without being squeezed by a few of them
The constantlyblow their horns
Choak you with the fumes
"Forget" to stop for stop signs
We complain but the policeseem to turn a blind eye.
AND I forgot to mention the dust!!!
