This isn't in new jersey but every New Jerseyan says it wrong
Sus-que-HAN-na
or
Sus-que-HAWN-a
Every person I know from NJ says it the second way. I'm the only person from NJ that says it the first way (the correct way), because that's how people from PA say it.

It's SEE or SEA --cau-cus. It has been since the 50's until all those out of towner's moved in and missed the language courses held in the library. First, you learn to pronounce the town's name correctly.

I haven't read through the whole thread so sorry if someone has already touched this one, but how do you pronounce Bayonne? I heard it pronounce Bay-on, Bay-yun, and Bay-yawn. And those were all by people who either lived there or showed apartments there.

Various ways I have heard Elizabeth pronounced:
lez-bet
liz-bit
liz- bit
liz-biff
liz-a-biff
liz-a- biff
a- liz-a-biff
e- liz-o-bith
and what I think is correct: e- liz-a-beth
And just for the record, the correct pronunciation of Newark is: "noork"

That's probably why no one can understand me when I say Newark. I always pronounce it New-erk then when the say What? I change it up and say New-ark.

It's "old tuh-PAN". There is no other correct way.
There is also the town of Tappan in NY which is "tuh-PAN".
The Tappan Zee Bridge, however, is pronounced "TAP-pin ZEE bridge".
I don't know why the pronunciation changes like that, but living in the area all my life, I know for sure that this is how it is.

I've always said "e- liz-a-bith"; close to yours, but I have to be honest that the "beth" I pronounce "bith".

I dated a girl from Kearney years ago who said "noork". I, and everyone I've known in my part of NJ, have always said "NEW-erk". All my life that is how I heard it till this girl said "noork". So to tease her I used to call her town "KER-nee", even though I knew it was pronounced "CAR-nee", and I also called Newark "NEW-ARK", like the one in Delaware, lol.
