Are the COL and housing prices in Bergen County and other areas of North Jersey anything like the SF Bay Area?

Anyone here move to NJ from the Bay Area?

No! I used to live in NJ and I have family in the Bay Area. There aren't many places that make North Jersey seem affordable, but the Bay Area does.

From my experience, cost of living is similar, but housing prices are much lower in NJ for comparable houses in desirable areas in SF Bay Area, especially on the high end. Apartments in NYC are on par with apartments in SF

On the other hand, property tax is higher in NJ.

True but not enough to make your monthly payment anywhere near what it would be in the SF Bay area for a comparable house in a comparable area.

North Jersey might be number 3 in cost behind sf and nyc but north jersey isn't a city like sf, it's a suburb nor a city.

SF is in a housing bubble obviously from the tech boom but the Visa programs and AirBnB are pushing housing prices to astronomical limits.

Has anyone here lived in the SF Bay Area / Silicon Valley before moving to NJ? or the NYC area?

Yes. Spent a year between downtown SF and Mountianview/Paolo Alto before moving back to NYC. Still make 4-6 trips per year to the area.

I have a sister who lives in the Bay area, she used to live in Cupertino, I believe it's a lot more expensive for housing there. Lots of people share housing, if you're not a tech worker you're just priced right out of the market.

We are both high tech workers and were completely priced out of the area so we decided to move back to NJ where jobs are good and housing (outside of Northern NJ) seemed cheaper. Also, I appreciate the green and seasons.
