Hello everyone; any suggestions on towns or 55+ communities in the Ocean County area? Open to further south suggestions.
Looking to spend $300,000 or less if possible in a nice community. Only need a 2 bedroom/2 bath house or condo. After Sandy, looking for a safe, non-flooding area. Would be nice to have a community center with a pool; not a golfer so golf course is not important.
Would like to be near decent shopping and doctors. Does the towns offer transportation to shopping centers and doctors? How are doctors and hospitals in the areas? Coming from North, Central Jersey area where there are a ton of stores and my doctors are all about 15 minutes drive.
Planning on retiring in the next 9 - 12 months, so will start to explore September.
Can't stay in my town once I retire, taxes are just too high.
I know COL would be better out of the state, but after lots of exploring nothing felt "right." Think you may have found the place and after visiting again you realize no way.
Thank you in advance!

I know there are several 55+ communities in Brick Township. Brick has a hospital (Ocean Medical Center) and lots of amenities (shopping, big box stores, etc) nearby along rt. 70 and rt. 88.
