Hillsborough has TONS through the town for the kids to do all year long - tennis, soccer, football, little league, swimming, gymnastics, art, music, camps, you name it. I love the recreation center's programs! There is the Fireman's fair in July. There's a memorial day picnic with free rides for the kids, fourth of July fireworks & festivities, a Halloween event, a kids play play called "Boro Kid Zone", Gymboree play and music ---so much really! We are going to be relocating and have our 3000 square foot 5 bedroom home on the market. PM if you are interested and I can give you the MLS ID or website. This is a great town with lots of open space and nice people. It was just voted the #23 best place to live in NJ.

We are considering Hillsborough. We are relocating from Tampa, FL. We want to rent first because we have 2 houses in FL now. What would the communte be like from Hillsborough to Staten Island. That is where my husband would be working. We have 4 small kids how is the school and the community?
I appreciate all responses.

Straight shot down the 287 and over the outerbridge crossing and your in Staten Island. Outside of rush hour it would take about 30 minutes to reach SI. In the town of Hillsborough itself which has no major mall or shopping center we stall have many conveniences. Our own movie theatre, all kinds of restaurants ranging from Japanese steakhouse to Applebees. For performing arts we have our own Somerset Hills Players theatre house. Princeton is 15 minutes south for a great hanging out spot. Our mall; Bridgewater commons includes all the high end retailers such as Bloomingdales, but if you want some bargains you can drive 20 minutes west to the very quaint Flemington outlets. Hike in the sourland mountains. Walk or Jog along the scenic Raritan canal. We have Kohls, Staples and Lowes right in town. And on top of this we still retain a semi-rural charm with farms you can stop by and get fresh corn and have your kids enjoy hayrides during the Fall. The list goes on.....

This is a great town. Lots of open space, great middle class suburban town. Schools are very good. Commute to staten island is about 40 minutes or so. There are apartments in town to rent and some condos and townhouses too. It's a very green town, lots of trees, very nice. I'm sure you'll love it here. Probably quite a bit more expensive than Tampa though and property taxes sure aren't cheap either.

For the Hillsborough folks.. any estimate on the commute to Parsippany (exit 40 on 287)?? I did it in 35 minutes with no traffic, but I know 287 can be a nightmare during rush hour.. Thanks

i won't say i'm 100% sure, but that's not the best commute traffic-wise. you'd take 206N to 287N - you're definitely looking at about 1hr+? 206 is bad, and 287 might be heavy when you get on, but I'm not sure how far north the traffic lasts.

You can't do 206 for any great length. If you must do 287 you better be going through there around 7am or you will be slowed and/or stopped.
