Hello, I'm going to Seton Hall University this spring for school (transfer to do a master in Asian Studies) and live in NYC. So i want to know what is the cheapest way to go to school for about 3 days+ per week. It would probably be better to drive there but have no way to save enough for a car by the time spring semester end (would probably be in a dorm by then.) Is it possible to bike there from NYC? I know the commute time would be over 2-3 hrs and don't care, just any help is appreciated.
You could do a mixed commute, take your bike on the PATH train just to get to Newark. PATH is cheaper than MTA these days. It would suck on rainy days, but you could just take NJ transit to South Orange on those days and have a much shorter ride.
If you found a folding bike on Craigslist you could take your bike on the train at any time of day, otherwise you're going to be restricted from taking trains during rush hour.
And, as always, the cheapest way is to walk. The bad news is that the only way to walk across the Hudson these days is via the GWB.
I mean easiest is the train from NY Penn to south orange or bus from port authority(not sure if there is a direct bus though). You definitely can not bike it from NYC to there. Well you could but that would be a hell of a ride each way. Your time would be better served taking the train and using that time to study. If money is an issue you could move to south orange. WOuld likely be cheaper and you can still get into the city if you need.

You do not want to bike from Newark to Seton Hall. You would be going through some very sketchy neighborhoods.
