Are you defining diversity as more bi level and split level homes?

Did you read the OP??? Where did I say a word about any type of home, at all?

If you have to commute to Manhattan, Chatham might be better with direct train to the city. Not sure if there is a bus option though for Chatham, I take the 113 bus to PA from Westfield.

Both are nice towns with good schools, I am under the impression that houses in Chatham might be a tad bigger/more expensive than Westfield, but with lower property tax. That's what my Chatham friends tell me anyway.

Thank you everyone! We have been looking at houses in both neighborhoods. I definitely got a better feel in Westfield than Chatham but my husband thinks the commute would be longer but I am reading that some of you say thats not true. Are you talking about driving or the train? Doesn't Chatham have a direct train but Westfield does not?

I know from Westfield it stops at Newark Penn, don't know if you have to transfer or not. From Chatham some are straight shots to NYC Penn Station some stop at Broad St. Newark.

The only express train from Westfield to NY Penn are a few off peak hours (like from 10am to 2pm). Peak hours, you have to transfer at Newark Penn. That adds at least 20 min to the trip.

Westfield commute: The train switch at Newark is a hassle, but not a dealbreaker. You can switch to PATH or else consider the express bus to Port Authority, depending on where you work.
Am sure all other things in terms of schools are even. Westfield does have a friendly vibe to it.
