Post South Orange Apartment Buildings

Hi folks.
Wife and I are moving from NYC and are looking to rent a two-bedroom apartment in South Orange.
We have a daughter who will be entering 8th grade in Fall 2008.

We have visited South Orange the past two weekends and there seem to be a number of apartments in the area.

Is anyone familiar with:

Academy Arms: Affiliated Management, Inc. - Academy Arms Apartments, South Orange, New Jersey

Village House: Affiliated Management Inc. - Village House / 174 Apartments, South Orange, New Jersey

171 Company Apartments: Affiliated Management Inc. - 171 Company Apartments, South Orange, New Jersey

Or can anyone recommend any other apartment buildings in the area?
Thanks very much!

You could try this website to see what people think. I found it when I was trying to remember the name of the apartments on the 3rd St. (Gaslight Commons). Some people didn't have great things to say according to this site.

Apartment Ratings :: The leading source of apartment reviews by renters for renters.

I grew up in South Orange but don't know much about the apartments.

I am currently renting an apartment in South Orange. If you can, I would recommend avoiding anything ran by Stone Mountain Properties. They are nice before you sign up but once you sign the lease they become pretty unresponsive. Affiliated management is their competition, I hope they are better.

Default yes to academy arms

we just moved into Academy arms. It is well kept up and very quiet concerning we are so close to town and the train. Affiliated management has been great to deal with. AA is mid range, mid quality for this area.

Check out maplewoodonline.com (there's section for South Orange too, the two towns are neighbors and share a school district).

The Gaslight Commons are in a great area; nice looking apartments near the train station.

Also check out Craig's List. There may be more choices, houses, two family homes etc. If you haven't already, expand your search to Maplewood; you may find more options.

Hi,
Thanks for your review of Academy Arms. I am considering signing a lease there this week and I was wondering if you are still enjoying your experience living there. How is the super and the management company? Any problems with rodents, bugs, leaking pipes, safety, etc? I'm feeling like the rent for a 2 BR near the train must be too good to be true... Any feedback you have (positive or negative) would be most appreciated. Thanks again!

This is your first time posting so I thought I'd point out don't be surprised if you don't get an answer. Chef mom only posted once and that was back in April so she's probably not on here.
