Anyone here from/live in Galloway Twp? We are looking to relocate from super busy north Jersey to south Jersey for various reasons. We are from the Paramus area and definitely don't want to live in the same type of area. From doing house searches in Galloway, it seems the prices are right and the houses are really nice. We are a young couple, but also very boring lol, so we aren't exactly looking for "exciting" places. It seems Galloway is very woodsy/farmy yet not too far from the beach--this is absolutely perfect for us.

How do you like living in Galloway? From what I can tell, there really isn't much crime. How are the schools? Any advice/information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I advise that you post in the So. Jersey Forum, you will get a lot of responses. Galloway is a nice area of Southern, NJ. You are near Absecon, Egg Harbor Twp., Linwood, Northfield. I personally do not know anything about Galloway school system but I am sure you will find out everything you need to know on the other forum.

I live in Galloway now, and actually grew up in Paramus, so I might be able to give you some relate-able feedback. This whole region is very different then life in the Paramus area. The biggest thing you will miss is the close proximity to all those malls. There is really only one "mall" in the area here and it doesn't compare to anything in Paramus. The other major negative I see is the limited number of commercial options down here compared to Paramus, i.e. you won't find a lot of ethinic food options (you find some), you won't find a lot of different franchises like Trader Joe's and the like (again, you will find some).

The pros are significant, IMO. Very little congestion and traffic. Galloway is not rural, it is very much suburban, but you don't find heavy traffic like you would in north Jersey, and certainly no where near a Saturday in Paramus. You get a great community feel in Galloway, and you are within driving distance to most everything you would need. It is college town in that it is home to Stockton U, but not in the rowdy way. Stockton students are very impressive in that most of them are respectful, professional, and community-oriented. Very little frat-party mentality here.

The schools in this region are good, but are not "ranked" as high as north Jersey, although a lot of factors go into that beyond quality of teachers. My child just started in the school system and I have yet to see any real negatives. Good teachers, good administrators, positive experience so far.

This region took a big financial hit in the past few years due to the AC casinos. IMO, we have hit the bottom in this region, and the recent activity in AC (including Stockton opening a future campus and Hard Rock buying the Taj Mahal) will begin the rebound for the region. This is probably one of the best times to move to Galloway, as housing prices and rents are at their best levels.

I hope that helps, and good luck.

Thank you, Rujebus! That is exactly what I wanted to hear. I am looking to move in another year or two, once we save a bit more. Everything about this area sounds perfect to us, esp the light traffic! The biggest reason we want out of north Jersey is the constant traffic, stores and restaurants are always packed, the people are ultra snooty...time to go.

Thanks again!

Galloway is neat and agree that now is most definitely the time to buy. In my experience wages are a bit lower in South Jersey than in the north, but I think the cost of living is a bit lower too (except property taxes). The thing to keep in mind is that the Atlantic City area is not a Philly suburb in the way that Paramus is a NYC suburb. You are an easy hour's drive away from the larger suburbs of Philly and Philly proper so eastern Atlantic County tends to be a world of its own. There's more than enough to do and tons of recreational/food options. You may not find a Trader Joes or Whole Foods until you head west to Cherry Hill but there are still health food/organic options close by, for example. Galloway is much more verdant and calmer than Paramus but not low-energy.

One thing to be mindful of is the airport, which has a Coast Guard/National Guard and commercial airline facilities. It can get loud in Pomona and the area near the GSP/Route 30 interchange. Also check for sewer service (http://www.atlantic-county.org/gis/p...110613_GAL.pdf) Galloway exploded in the wake of the casino developments and will probably see more development in the future if the economy comes back. A lot of the town won't ever be developed but you could probably find a more rural or suburban place based on your preference by seeing where sewer service will go.
