Default please recommend a place in union city
I'm looking to find a place that's affordable, safe and close to the EXCHANGE PLACE. Does anyone know if 8th street, union city is safe and convenient to the light rail? Can anyone recommend an area if it's not?

other suggestions are also highly appreciated, thanks guys

Do you mean the Exchange Place PATH station? Isn't that in Jersey City?

The intersection of 8th Street and Palisade Ave is maybe 1/2 mile from the elevator to the light rail station at 9th Street in Hoboken. I think that's fairly convenient and it's not a bad area. Palisade Ave et environs is pretty nice. Lots of older houses and buildings and quite a few new condos and conversions.

If you work at Exchange Place, try Jersey City heights (west of Kennedy Blvd, better part). Its a relatively safe area, quiet, and you can jump on the mini-bus on Kennedy to JSQ and take the Path to Exchange (20-40 minutes in all). Union City is super congested and rent is high for crack house accomodations. Good luck, don't forget to check Craigslist.org

I like the Weehawken/Guttenberg area. Close to light rail to hoboken and the Ferry to NYC and also many buses travel throughout that area.
