Default Rural or small town new jersey; disabilities?

Is there such a thing as small town New jersey? I can get work but would like to be out of a seriously urban environment. I know housing is expensive to buy, but I'd be willing to rent/lease; it does not matter to me.

I heard that NJ has good services for people with disabilities and I am at a point where I would like to move someplace with my adult daughter with a disability. Is this true

My recommendation for you would be Hackettstown, Warren Co., NJ. Small Town NJ and they do have a free bus/van service for the elderly and / or disabled. You can purchase a home for under 300K or you can rent as there are tons of apt. complexes as well as single family homes for rent. Another area, just outside of Hackettstown is Mansfield. Both great areas. Try gsmls.com Warren Co. - they also include rentals.

I grew up in Sussex County NJ, specifically the town of Wantage, which is beautiful and still pretty rural in comparison to most of NJ. There is a lot of new construction in certain towns like Sparta, but you can find affordable housing/rentals in most other towns. I lived in Vernon for two years before my husband took a job in Kansas City and our house had beautiful mountain views. I am biased of course, but I would say Sussex county is your best bet.

I would caution you to check out things like ARC or NJ Division of Vocational Rehab and County Services for the disabled in whichever county you feel you would decide to go to. Services vary and unfortunately, the more densely populated areas usually offer more services. I would also check with Division of Youth and Family Services to see what sort of information you can get. The other thing to consider is, since you are older and you have an adult disabled daughter, is what sort of services, transition etc are in place for the disabled for if you were to be sick, hospitalized, or die. I hate to be blunt, but I am an RN and its something that heppens. I would also see, depending on what her disability is, if you can have her attend a workshop, or adult day-care center, or something like that where she could have an onsite social worker who would build a relationship with you and her for the future.

Good luck
