Default Suggestions Taxes and Schools

Any suggestions for towns in South Jersey that are not going to kill us with taxes and have decent schools. We also need to commute to Philly. So either an easy jump onto 42, 295 or 55 or acces to the High speed line would be required.

We are currrently in Pennsauken, and while Pennsauken gets a bad name, we are in the good part of Pennsauken which is in the middle of Merchantville. Surrounded by old glorious Victorians. The problem is Pennsauken's schools system sucks, and now that we have children, we are getting tired of getting hammered with the double bill of taxes and tuition for catholic schools.

We would like to find a nice safe small town with good schools and moderate taxes for our kids.

Someone told us to try Deptford because they are building some new homes there.

Suggestions ?

Taxes are high everywhere in Jersey. What do you consider "moderate" taxes? and how much are you willing to spend on a home?

Keep in mind - anything along route 42 or south will be a bear of a commute to Philly each day.

Our taxes are not that bad now at about $4500, but between the taxes and almost $7000 tuition, we know we can find a better community with a good public school system and more children for our kids to play with for our children.

Let me add another reason we are looking to move is because there are not many children in our neighborhood for our children to play with.

Look at Audubon and Westmont. Easy drive or train ride to Philly. Taxes average around 5k. Pretty good school systems.

OR if you want newer homes with more young families around - I suggest looking at some townhomes in Mt Laurel where the taxes are about 5k as well.

Go north 1 town into Burlington County. Cinnaminson or Delran

Still have the light rail patco connection in Camden.

Shamong Twp is nice, not too far, school system pretty good and taxes not bad. Tabernacle would be another option. Deptford's school systems aren't as good, but better than Pennsauken's ratings. I did read in an article that shamong has the best price for the buck.. overall school systems, housing, and taxes.
