Bergen progressive? It's only progressive at the public places but once you venture to the communities it's a whole different attitude. If you're dark skinned and decides to take a stroll, careful as the town police will have you on their sight for as they pass by. The demographics of the towns is a clear indication they are not diverse or accepting.
Nah, the demographics is probably a clear indication of how expensive the towns are to live in. NJ is so segregated due to socioeconomic reasons, nothing more.

Many Indian people are buying houses $500-800k, money is not the only issue. A lot of Indians prefer living closer to their communities.
Like others have said, there's racism everywhere. I don't think any town in Bergen County has the reputation of racism like say, a place like Howard Beach does. I think if you're a Black or Latino and you're moving into a community of mostly white people who don't typically interact with Blacks or Latinos, there may be some apprehension on their part (or perhaps even on your part) to be social with you. This does not necessarily make either of you racist. I don't think this should deter you from moving there if it is the case. The only way to move forward is to actually interact with one another. Now, for those that are flat out racist, there's little you can do to change those people's minds so I wouldn't lose sleep over it.
Me too. Except I was the only kid of German ancestry in a Jewish and Italian neighborhood. So naturally they all thought I was Irish.
Funny, older Italians thought I was Polish growing up, since I have light hair and blue eyes and town was mostly Italian and some Polish. My friend who is Cuban thinks all light hair and skin people are Irish.

I still contend people really don't care about race in BC
Take care of your house and don't be noisy
That's how to be a good neighbor
Doesn't matter what race you are
