My husband and I are looking for pediatrician recommendations in Union, Middlesex, and possibly Bergen counties. We're first-time parents, so we're looking for someone patient, understanding, and experienced.
Patient, understanding, and experienced is basically what you'd look for in any pediatrician. The other thing you want is someone close to you, as you'll need to be able to get there at 8 AM at times or run them over right after school.
So having a wide swath over three counties isn't going to provide you the right answer. What town are we really talking about?
Seriously though what does being gay have to do with picking a pediatrician? I can recommend an excellent one in Metuchen. Dr Shankar. She also has offices in East Brunswick. Yo

If you want to have a good relationship with any doctor you probably shouldn't run them over. Yo
No recommendations, but I do understand why you want a gay friendly pediatrician. I have a friend who is gay and started with one pediatrician that transferred her to another pediatrician in the office after finding out my friend has a wife and not a husband.
I think you'll find better luck on a local parenting group in your town/county. Unfortunately, many times these are called "mommy groups" on FB but they are open to all parents. Personally, my recommendation is that you look for practices near your home (or near your daycare or wherever the child will be most often during the day) and check their operating hours, weekend hours, and then make appointments for interviews. We interviewed 3 different practices before finding one we liked, and then switched doctors within the practice after finding we preferred one doctor's bedside manner more.
Questions you should ask are:
-are there separate sick and well areas
-what do you do when a child is sick after hours/weekends? Is there a nurse's line, doctor texting service, affiliated ER, weekend hours?
-of course what insurance they take
-do they allow unvaxed patients (if so, under what circumstances)
-standard or alternative vax schedule
-do they allow same day or walk in sick visits
Things you will want to ask other parents when you get into a local FB group:
-what are actual wait times
-how long are waits for walk in or same day sick visits
-how responsive is the nurse's line after hours
-how are the individual doctor's bedside manners (people have different preferences about this)
-eta: how quick are they to prescribe meds vs how often do they recommend more natural or wait-and-see approaches?
As opposed to the ones who don't treat kids if they are suspicious of a gay person?
