I'm still scratching my head on the "the had Tampa representatives tell us all about Florida" bit, though. So, you moved 1,000 miles from home to avoid a layoff back when the job market was still very good, and based your decisions on what the local Chamber of Commerce spokesperson said? You didn't do any research on your own? You've never heard that Florida is hot and humid, or weren't able to figure out that it might be a little hotter than NJ, seeing how it's alot closer to the equator? You had kids going into the school system there, and didn't research that ahead of time?
Sounds like you made a rash decision and have sour grapes now.

I believe this person may have been better off on the east coast of Florida. Tampa is more like middle America. Palm Beach county and northern Broward are more like the tri state area. Dade county is more like South/Central America.
And as far as cost of living goes... well lets see I get 10% more in each paycheck due to no state tax withheld. I live a Hoboken type lifestyle near a downtown area in Palm Beach county for half the rent I paid in Hoboken, an additional bedroom and private garage with free parking here. To play my second favorite sport - Golf- is about half the price it is in New Jersey.
Oh yes and when I am looking for a home I will get probably 1000 sq ft larger home down here for the same price in New Jersey in addition: a pool and in a golf Community.
Yes life sure is tough down here in Paradise.
I have realized Some people are just miserable whereever they are.

I guess if you are retiring or have no kids it would work out cheaper though.

20114 Still Wind Dr, Tampa, FL, 33647 - MLS ID#T2309295 - Single Family Home real estate - REALTOR.com®
200K! thats 50% less than what you would pay here in NJ. The savings would cover all the expenses.
http://www.realtor.com/realestateand...647_1105687182 145k?
If maintenance is to much a townhome is less than 100k with a garage! http://www.realtor.com/realestateand.../pg-2?pfbm=800
That same townhome would be 350+ here in NJ

exactly, the only misery I have is when my paycheck dwindles on cost of living expenses and taxes. Otherwise I love NJ or any place that I go
If you take the time to really think about how much taxes you pay, it becomes mind boggling. Now add in all the other things the government does to make money like tolls, misc charges like FMLA payments on your paycheck, permits, the lottery. Then for the government to say they don't have enough money is enough to make you want vomit.
There is only one sane answer.
Cut the size of NJ Government and abolish all
corporate taxes and fees for small business.

Again NorthJersey.com: New Jersey property tax rebates cut no long term solution or strategy. All the gov't can do is tactical responses to our issues.

I'm thinking he was probably talking about decent country-club type courses- not the run-down public walk-on pitch and putt.

Rockleigh is public and looks pretty amazing, imo. It's certainly nicer than a handful of country club courses I've been to. It's $17 for weekday 18-hole twilight.
