If you did nothing wrong than you have nothing to hide.

Who would care if you did nothing wrong, as long as it is not a overburdening obligation like having to drive over to a laboratory so people can do tests for an hour. That would really suck

It keeps a check on everyone, a makes sure the play is level.

It is a great idea, the only downside is I would not want to pay for it.

I doubt most of the kids really cares about their "rights in such matters" or being "discriminated against".

The only real downside is footing the bill for it, and if the testing is seriously invasive or extremely time-consuming. but if it is just a simple **** test that happens only so often then why not?
With the monies that some of these schools bring in with their sports programs it can be picked up by the school.
I would say testing once per month during the sports season.

Taking performance enhancing drugs is cheating.

No... Im not. Im tired of everyone policing me and everyone else. If someone looks like he is on steroids and acts like he is on steroids... leave everyone else alone... Its not just about this, its about EVERYTHING. Two years from now they are going to have us tested for 5 different things.

Actually, I think you are...

Its a failing of the community, a complete lack of trust in students, if this were to happen. Yes, students - thats what they are.

Do bowlers need steroid testing? How about tennis players? Golf? They are athletes, those are school sports.

Its ridiculous.

And let me just say I think if they HAVE to do this... EVERYONE in high school should be tested. Arent other kids important too? Dont make just athletes do it because its "cheating." Protect all of the kids.

Sorry, your distinction makes absolutely no sense to me. I don't see a distinction at all. You're saying its a drug, and they might use it, so they need to be tested for it. Why not go all out?

Maybe in order to live in NJ we should all submit to random mandatory drug testing. That way we know our citizens aren't outlaws in disguise!

If you don't want the test don't put on the uniform.

Oh great... more sheep. If the government says they should test us then we better listen or dont play! I wonder what they'll be making us go through 20 years from now? And people will still go along with it.

Now your talking. Sometimes I feel like I am the only one worrying about this. Good to see a fellow genius.

just curious - who here who doesn't agree with testing have children? it seems there's a split - those with children agree, those without, don't.

i have to say, after having kids, my views on a lot of things have changed drastically.

When I went to high school they should have checked for pot smokers. But then again half the teachers were smoking it and most of the kids. This steroid testing is a touchy subject. Where I work we have random testing they use your SS# and throw it into the mix, if your # comes out you have to respond IMMEDIATELY and pee in a bottle actually 2, ones sent out and the other is stored in case you come back with a positive test where you get fired. I peed about 10-15 times already it gets kind of old when your boss stands next to you when you try to pee in a small bottle. For me that comes with the territory of employment. But when it comes to our children I have reservations about this because it's kinda like saying their guilty first. Now I'll use police jargon, if they have reasonable suspicion with is one step below probable cause I say no test. But if they have probable cause which can be documented than I say test them and I as a parent want to be shown the documentation and be there before a test is administered.
