Between these 3 towns, it's easy to say which is better. Go ask 100 people where they would prefer to live and I think you will get your answer. Which is better on a dollar for dollar basis is another story. The list is titled "best places to live", not best town for the money. There is a reason expensive towns are expensive, and cheap towns are cheap. It is a free market, therefore the expensive towns will invariably, by definition, be "better" for most people. I wouldn't live in some of the towns that are in the middle of the list if you gave me a nice house for free. Why aren't these towns dead last? Verona was ranked something like 3rd. While Verona is a perfectly nice town, there are probably 150 towns I would choose before Verona. As I said, the list is a joke.

Sure, in the end it's all personal, but it is interesting to see how towns rank when various methodologies are applied to them.
I definitely was surprised to see Cranford so high up, although I probably shouldn't since the demand for homes here is pretty strong given the strong HS, good home values, nearness to trains, and overall safety and quaintness of the town.

Since I live in Cranford (and go around all 3 a lot), I would have to say Cranford is best overall, and you'd better have something to show that would prove otherwise

My god! That list should be listed from Worst to Best, and not the other way around!
Montgomery Township has the best school system in NJ and it's ranked way at the bottom (500 something!)!
Someone should sue this magazine!

Are you kidding me? Watchung is one of the elite places to live in New Jersey.
