Well, la-di-da...I guess you must have a better moral sense than most people, huh?

If that's the way you want to read it, fine. But nothing is more important to me than the safety of my children.

Yeah, because everyone else thinks their children don't deserve any better....

But their children are their responsibility. My children are mine.
I know it's late, but I'm not sure I understand your argument. Are you saying that because other people, due to their life's situation, have to put their children in jeopardy, that I should "do my share" and put mine in jeopardy too?

You can't wholly disregard household income when compiling a "Best Place to Live List". The methodology is terrible.

Now now, we should know better than to think that way. After all, they came up with the study, so they have to be right, right?

Well, then, shouldn't you be in some place like Japan, Ireland, Denmark, New Zealand or maybe Norway? I mean, those are the safest countries in the world in terms of crime. What the heck are you doing here in gun-toting, crime-ridden USA?
Oh, I see, because in REALITY, there's more to life than the crime statistics. IN REALITY, you can't just shoe-horn an entire city and its 300,000 inhabitants into one big generalized shoe-horn

I haven't read through the entire thread, so maybe this has already been asked and answered - but does anyone know how NJ Monthly weighted the eight categories?
Were they equal? If so, as a matter of personal preference, I'd take issue with that. Total crime rate, for example, has a much larger impact on quality of life than percentage of land preserved as open space or student proficiency on state-mandated standardized tests. Equal weights would have the effect of diluting the impact of higher crime rates on the overall 'score' of a community. JMHO.

I'm no statistician, but it looks like they just averaged the 8 catagories and completely ignored average household income in order to "level the playing field"

an average of the eight numerical values for each municipality determined its final rank.
