Are you asking this question in regard to the town of Somerset, or in regard to Somerset County?
If your question is in regard to the town, you would need to--at least--double your budget.
If you are asking in regard to the county, your budget would be even further from a realistic purchase price in some of the really affluent areas.

If you are willing to settle for an apartment-style condo, it might be possible to find a very small one in Franklin Park, which is a few miles south of Somerset.

As I see it, the only chance for buying a single family home in Somerset County in your price range would be if you could locate a fixer-upper in Manville which needed a LOT of work.

It is hysterical.

Bound Brook and North Plainfield would have quite a few properties under $200k and are in Somerset County.

Of course, they have bad schools and different demographics from most of Somerset County, I have no idea if the poster would like them or not.
