I am currently in Jersey city and don't care much for it so I'm wondering which areas would be better for a family ? I was looking at the jersey shore but scared because of the hurricane damage. Which areas in the shore possibly would be safe from flooding and which are easy to get around without a car? Mainly to get to schools and grocery shopping ? I work from home so that's not an issue. Thanks.

Before I answer that question, I have a very important question. Where do you work?

I know the troll is gone, but this was as dumb as some of the other posts. Jersey City also got whacked in the hurricanes. My office was near Exchange Place at the time, and we couldn't get back there for a while. I saw on the news a cop in a boat in front of our building.

Living near shore will always make you vulnerable to hurricane or flooding, that is why the homeowners insurance and flood insurance are so high. Try Hunterdon County, any towns along Rt 31 which is also close to I78, such as Clinton township, Lebanon. Family friendly, great school systems, much less traffic due to low population density, yet easy drive alone I78 to Newark airport and direct bus to NYC.

I had been tempted to suggest to the OP that "moving in New Jersey" simply requires the coordinated use of one's legs--just like in any other state. However, that type of comment would have been insensitive, and as you know I have never demonstrated any sort of insensitivity in regard to obvious trolls...
