If you don't need to be by the train, you could probably find some places in Rahway, Carteret, and Perth Amboy around $800-900. I've seen them.

Might get $700 for a studio if you're lucky.
Old Bridge is much nicer than Rahway or Carteret.

It's also more expensive.

There's really no other way to find housing at your price level.

You could check out all of the large apartment complexes on Apartments.com or use a broker, but those would put you well over $1000.
Ah gotcha! And I figured/assumed because I know of some apartment complexes by me (just by passing by all the time) and the lowest is between $1,000 - $1,200. That's out of my price range at the moment. So was hoping for my price range somewhere.

you could also look for sublets as well so you might get a feel for an area. sometimes they are furnished, sometimes not.
I just looked at craigslist for regular apartements and while most under 800 were in trenton or did not seem to be legit, there was one in dunellen which looked legit. I can message it to you. I am not sure if it is permitted to link a specific ad.and I want to explain that I really know nothing about this but saw something that was pretty affordable that might be nice.
