Why did I get a ticket if have daytime running lights & copy of registration card
Hello,
I have a clear driving record for over 15 years and I was recently pulled over in Helmetta, middlesex county. The officer gave me a ticket for not having my lights on when it was drizilling on/off and gave me a ticket for that and not having the original registration card. Does anyone know if daytime running lights are adequet and having a copy of the registration card. I explained that to the officer that my wife had the original and that I have daytime running lights on the car and his response was you can plead not guilty and go to the court and simply walked away. Thank you.

Headlights must be turned on while it is raining. This law went into the books shortly after NY adapted it.
Simply put, if you are using your wipers, you must have your headlights on.

Headlights must be on.
The registration card thing is the cop just being a dick. Many towns in Middlesex County have cops who think they are in the FBI.

The problem is you got pulled over in Helmetta...The town of Helmetta is less than one square mile...they have 2 police officers...if you get pulled over by one you're getting a ticket, no matter what....that's just how it is in super small towns ya know...they'll ticket anyone passing through their town to bring in revenue. I'm sure if you happened to be a resident of Helmetta it would have been a whole different story....
take a look at the size of this town: Helmetta, New Jersey - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Lights on when raining and no copies of anything, originals are needed. With registrations they ask when you renew if you want an official copy they are 3 bucks. If they took copies of things people would have copies of drivers license, insurance cards and like yourself a copy of the registration.

And since nobody mentioned... DRLs are different than lights. Lights on will turn on sidemarkers and tails. DRLs are only headlights.

Thank you very much for your responses
Thank you very much everyone for your responses. I hope that when I plea not guilty, they would at least reduce the penalties considering my records.
