We've recently relocated from Charlotte, NC to the Atlantic Highlands area. In Charlotte we lived in a very close knit/ friends/ social community of about 100 homes along with an HOA, neighborhood social events, pool, clubhouse, etc. While that is the norm in the Charlotte area, we are having a very difficult time finding anything like it in NJ, especially to still be in commuting time to the Seastreak ferry.
We are open to considering a train commute to NYC from areas such as Middletown, Little Silver, if it means being able to find the home neighborhood we want.
Does anyone know of any neighborhoods that would fit this description? (PS- Familiar with Cottage Gate but while it is close to ferry and has an HOA, it is not at all social.)
Thanks!

OP there is a sticky at the top of the page that you should fill out to give more details and you'll get more responses on what you're looking for.
Short answer there's not too much like what you're looking for to be honest esp outside of Middletown and holmdel but many of the smaller towns like little silver fair haven and the lime a very close knit, more so if you joIn a beach club. Depending on your budget there's a few options coming up in Middletown but again fill out the sticky up top first.

Op most adults in NJ socialize more with friends than neighbors. My two closest friends live in mantoloking and scotch plains (about 40 miles apart) while I live in Manasquan. The only friends I have in town are people I grew up with myself. I really only know my neighbors through my daughter and her classmates, and while we would get together when the kids were little, most people tend to be friends via other contexts than being neighbors.

Maybe you should look for a social circle based on your interests rather than limiting yourself to your neighbors.

This is an area where a lot of people never leave. Understandable because it's a great location but lonely for newcomers. Everyone went to school together and married each other's cousins and they spend all of their time together and just aren't looking for new friends.
