Hi all,

We are looking to move from historic downtown JC to near Lincoln Park (somewhere within the area between Communipaw and Fairview and West Side Av and Bergen Av). Does anyone have any idea of the safety of the area? We have young kids, so want to make sure that they will be safe. We realise it will not be the same as downtown, but is the area reasonably good?

I think it's not an unreasonably bad area, and getting better over time. The best streets, clearly, are Gifford and Bentley near the park. Having access to the park is great, but you'll want to take care to keep an eye on the kids there, even if they're older kids. Bergen Avenue is still a bit dicey. I'd want to be closer to the Blvd or WSA.

I really like that area for its housing stock, mature trees, and the park. And if it were a shorter walk to PATH I would probably be there now myself.

relatively safe with some spillover from past Bergen ave and past Communipaw. I lived on Fairview right by Bergen ave. I didn't mind, because I'm a native and a single male. But for someone with kids, It's not the best area, as far as immediately by Bergen is concerned. The closer to Kennedy or past Kennedy and closer to west side, the better. Among some of the problems near Bergen are open air drug markets and lots of drug addicts committing crimes in order to score more drugs. Fights and young kids staying up till all hours of the night playing music and being loud inst uncommon either, especially during the hotter months.
