I forgot to ask... Where does he commute to? I had to drive to Fort Lee, which entailed several 'land mines' along the way. If your husband commuted to, say, Parsippany, then it's a whole different ball game.
Commuted on Route 80 to 287 from Hackettstown/Independence to Morristown for 11 years...don't miss it at all. It was an absolute nightmare at times . Have relocated in Warren County closer to 78, I have to say 78 to 287 is 100 times better.
Gotcha. That's about how far I thought he probably traveled. So, between 45-60 minutes, for a 32 mile commute. He's averaging about 40-45 mph. But he is spared further anguish by bailing out at Market St! Those extra 15 miles to Fort Lee are pretty tough Tahiti.
I do agree with you about the weekend, (unless it's a summer Sunday night) Rt 80 is pretty harmless.

it's about a 40 mile commute overall (mileage to get to 80)....
yes, i agree, those last miles from paterson to ft. lee can be a nightmare - i've had to do it a few times going to our office in NYC - that's not something I'd be able to handle on a daily basis. i have a neighbor who does it everyday, my hat's off to him!

That's what my commute is. It's steadily getting worse and worse.
Cost of living. Dollar goes a lot further out there.
Other than housing, is anything else cheaper? The reason I ask is I once flirted with buying property in Tranquility. (I don't know how many know where this little hamlet is!) The taxes, however, drove me away. This was around 2000. The taxes back then were 7600. I can't imagine what they are today.

I used to rent some dumpy place in Rockaway but wanted to own my own home. This was eons ago. I bought a place in Sussex and then moved out after four years. I wanted to stay in the Rockaway area but couldn't afford to buy a house so I moved to Hackettstown.
