Try Teaneck or Fairlawn. Both wouldn't be so bad to go to Fort Lee and have limited urbanism. If you are looking at truly heavily Jewish areas with a high degree of urbanism, then you would have to go to Queens or Brooklyn, but no way in hell you would do that if commuting to Fort Lee.

But we found this area is too suburban for us, therefore our second option was Hoboken, which looks like a great city, easy commute to NYC but a bit expensive for small apt.

So, if you know about any town similar to Hoboken in this area, it would be great to hear about it.
Thanks in advance!
I am going to go with the Jewish community as I don't know that an Israeli community is truly feasible. That said, I'm Jewish, and I think "Jewish Community" is a relative and subjective term. If Tenafly is too suburban, you went with the other extreme in Hoboken -- no large house, no backyard, and expensive. I don't know what you looked at in Tenafly, but a well-sized house, with a backyard -- will not be inexpensive in Tenafly.

I have plenty of Jewish friends, in their 30's and 40's, with kids, who live in Fort Lee, Oradell, Mahwah, Teaneck, and while it may not be widely considered a Jewish community, Ridgewood. Others have looked at Glen Rock, Fair Lawn, and Saddle River. Some of these may of course be too suburban.

Good luck.

be aware if you do end up looking in hoboken, schools are not very good. actually, not good at all.
fort lee is not terribly far from tenafly but definitely denser in population. although you mention the feel may be too suburban for you, tenafly will afford much better schools. what is your budget, and what are your requirements as far as property and square footage? good luck, i hope you find something.

The short answer is no. Towns local to the jcc on the palisades will have Israelis because that's the hub for families - unless you are orthodox and plan to send to yeshiva. The other option is Manhattan which also is a great, albeit expensive place to live and now has free pre k and better public school choices.
Tenafly and cresskill probably have the largest percentage of native Hebrew speakers but they are suburban for sure.

Teaneck is probably your best bet

Fair Lawn is the obvious answer. Two train stations, express buses, Orthodox, Conservative, and Reform congregations, and the place where Route 4 starts, giving a one-road shot about 12 miles to Fort Lee, where Route 4 ends.

I totally missed that the OP wanted more urban. Fair Lawn is suburban. Sorry.

Why not just live in fort lee? There are plenty of synagogues and good amount of Jews.
