Default Summer at the Beach in NJ

Hi,
My husband and I are currently empty nesters in Westchester. We are interested renting a home for July and August in one of NJ's beach areas. My husband works out of the house 2 days, and commutes to Hoboken 3 days per week, so we would not want to be more than 1 hour (at most) from Hoboken.

I'd love to get advice as to nice areas to stay at or near the shore ("nice" but not too, too expensive). We're not interested in a lot of noise or late night stuff going on. We drove through Avon by the Sea once, and thought that looked nice. What's YOUR advice?

This is already late in the year to be planning something like this, so if you have any leads for actual houses (or apartments??) to rent, please send them my way! Thanks so much!

Alex

Spring Lake is beautiful. Avalon, and my personal choice is always Cape May.

Avalon is at least 2 hours Cape May is 3 hours. Manasquan is a nice town and fairly quiet except by the 2 bars. Belmar is a decent town but they have alot of animal house rentals but they are cracking down. Anything past Manasquan puts you past 1 hour. Sea Girt is a nice upscale town along with Spring Lake thats quiet. I like Bay Head but thats 2 towns south of Manasquan and puts you at about 1hr and 15 mins. No its not to late for a rental as the economy is in the toilet and when gas hits 4 bucks a gallon the people renting houses will just be glad to get someone to rent. My friends always wait until the last minute and rent and get big breaks as the owners don't want to lose the week. Good luck the Jersey Shore is great. I was by the ocean today but it'sstill cold as the water temp. is a chilly 43 degrees. But I also like it in the off season as we walk with the dog all the time.

avon is a very nice town, spring lake is close by but much pricier, you could consider Long Branch the new condos on the ocean are nice and there's things to do close by

You can look at Spring Lake Hts. A nice town just a little bit set back from the beach. It is adjacent to Spring Lake but not as expensive. The closest areas to the beach are 6 blocks out but also near the train station. There is a nice condo community...Fairway Mews right on a golf course and about 3/4 mile to the beach. There are many small homes to rent. Spring Lake Beach is beautiful, clean charming with a cute downtown.

Sorry the full name is Spring Lake Heights for search purposes. It is not a party town! Quiet and peaceful.

I would have to say Spring Lake is my favorite, There are condo's about 4-5 blocks from the beach called Fairway Mews i believe on a golf course. And is also very close to the center of town that has great pubs, and close to shopping and transportation. Good luck and enjoy the shore.
