"Rarity"?! There are a ton are nice suburban towns in South Jersey.
Sure there are many nice suburban towns in South Jersey, but not many exclusive ones, especially compared to North and Central Jersey. The few "fancy" ones have mostly been mentioned already. The northern part of the state also holds most of the top school districts.

That's a cool map, but I see my town (Summit) labeled as "central Jersey" which is weird, especially since literally every other town on the Morris&Essex rail line is lableled "north Jersey."
Not a perfect map, but pretty close. Parts of Union County can arguably be considered "north". I would consider Ocean County part of South Jersey. Even Monmouth is pushing it, but my view is skewed because I live in the real northern part of NJ (bordering Orange County, NY)
The old 201/609 map is what sets North apart from South
How do you explain the fact there are many businesses that begin with the name "Central Jersey..."?
Additionally, if there is no Central Jersey, why did the NJSIAA create a playoff system for High School sports that is divided into North, Central, and South Jersey regions?

Let an outsider take a (sarcastic) stab at this debate:
People from North Jersey have a tendency to think they are better than anyone except those from NYC.
People from Central Jersey have a tendency to think they are better than anyone except those from North Jersey or NYC.
People from South Jersey generally don't distinguish between North and Central Jersey but it doesn't matter because they hate all of New Jersey above Trenton.
