l'm in Australia , here we call it rates. But l think that's the same as taxes on your house there from what l can tell.
Here , Even in the country town l just bought a place , the rates are $1,000 a yr and then they also hit you for water too and that's an extra 250 a 1/4 yr.= so another k a yr just for town water.
lf your out of town you'd be on tank water so no water rates and usually the property rates are about 1/2 of that living in town or city.

We have millage, an amount paid annually on the total assessed value of our property. In NJ these amounts tend to be in the 2-4% range. So in general a LOT more than $1000/year ($8550/year is average), plus things like water and sewer (I pay about $40/month for water and I think $125/year for sewer).

Englewood, New Jersey, 5BR, 4BA, 1 acre: $28,000/year.

On the other hand, without traffic, I can be in Midtown in < 30 minutes.

27k. But on .22 acres. Far from an acre (which doesn't exist here). If I had say half an acre I'd be pushing 35k.

Less than 30 min bus no traffic or 35 min train. No RET deductions, but no more NYC income tax, which is an additional 4 percent on his and her.

Nearly $10K on a very small, old house, on a very small lot in Rahway.
It's robbery.

But Australia has a GST, where we have sales taxes determined differently by each state.

Frankly, Australia and the US are totally different in so many basic societal ways that there's very little use in comparing the two of them.

The least expensive taxes I've seen are between 4 and 5 thousand.
