Consider Fair Lawn in your list...good schools, great commute (2 train stations, great bus commute if you leave by 7am/5.30pm), prices and tax should fall in the range for a 3BR/2BA SFH - mostly built in 1950s, but renovated ones and will be within your range.

Berkeley Heights has a wait list for commuter parking that's currently about three years. Unless you live within walking distance of the bus stop/train station, you're in for a rough few years.

Thanks for all the helpful suggestions. How do I find out what is waiting list for train/bus station parking in each town?

Call City Halls or police stations -- whomever issues parking permits. BTW, some towns have no waitlists, nor fees. Just depends.

Berkeley Heights has a number you can call, but they'll only tell you "about 2.5 years". We were told two years when we moved here, but it's been two years now and we're still not even close. It will probably end up being three.
