Hi,
I currently live in Springfield, NJ and my husband commutes about 50 minutes to the city by bus. We are looking for an area that is more rural, natural, farmland, larger properties, more space between houses, etc.
We are willing to add another 30 minutes to his commute (bus or train) in exchange for more nature. Can anyone recommend some areas to research?
Ideally we'd like to be within a 30 minute drive of west orange as well, since our kids go to school there.
Thanks in advance.

If you move, they'll be in a different school district.

They may be attending private school in West Orange.

You might want to look at Randolph. It's not rural, but it's fairly spread out and is about 20 minutes to West Orange.

Since you're looking for 30 minutes to West Or, one place that comes to mind is Green Pond.
Obviously many others., just one of the first places I thought of,. Smoke Rise is another. Theres another called either Charlottesville or Charlottesburg too, less overall houses.

Oh and at first glance I saw that word rural without taking into account you said more rural than WO,,, I mentioned places that are off the beaten path yet somewhat close. There are many locations that have more space without going all the way.

These days its easy to fly around with various online maps,,, I would suggest something like Google Earth which is 3 dimensional or any of the other online programs or websites such as EeEEEvil racist Google Maps, (I often call it that for their censorship),,, go to satellite mode, you can expand down to fairly close level of everywhere

South Orange has South Mountain, whatever town is on the other side has a lot of greenery from that.

If you are looking for rural I would say West Milford, or Mahwah.

Clinton Township in Hunterdon County meets ALL your requirements. It is just off I78, has a transbridge bus stop, direct bus service to midtown in 75 min. (of course, you have to leave early, before 7am). 30 min drive along I78 to West Orange for sure. Much bigger bang for your bucks.

West Orange and Millburn, but they're definitely not rural.
