I understand. IMO we have plenty of good colleges, just don't get the national attention, except maybe for Princeton, because we are not an NCAA powerhouse, which is just fine

I've always felt that if you're a regular student at a school because it has a good sports program instead of the good nursing program or zoology or whatever you're actually studying you probably shouldn't even be at college. People shouldn't want to go to Rutgers because of their Big10 standings they should want to go there because the pharmacology department is nationally ranked.

uh oh, someone has been sipping on that haterade!

all my statements that i made were about me (OP asked people about what they would do) and not necessarily suggestions for what others should do. if you feel that i was gloating, i dont care.

Only if I had to. My family is pretty much scattered across the U.S. For me it's not grandkids- it's parents and nieces/ nephews. I stay in NJ because I'm central to them. It's expensive- I couldn't see retiring here (I'm in my forties) but until my parents are gone (moved away or the alternative) and my young family have moved I'm staying as long as possible. For my parents- they need family somewhat nearby to keep them out of assisted living. It's also a really good feeling to be able to help them. I'm not close enough to go daily but when I do go it feels right. I'm close to them emotionally. I can help with tasks, I can be involved in a way I couldn't be if they were living too far away. It helps me tremendously to know if I need to I can drop everything and be there in just a few hours- though I'd be happier if they were a little closer.

Some parts of neighboring states might be an option for you but I think staying close to family is vital if they are remaining involved. I'm not talking about staying because a kid might help out- but keeping a relationship with a kid in later years- it's not just for you- believe me. It does their spirit good to know they did all your years of care-giving respect by being there for you in your later years.

Then Rider,Monmouth and Stockton just to name a few.
I am sure you can get good education in those schools. But then again, it is possible to get a good education from taking on-line courses if one is not lazy. But I am pretty sure very few people outside on NJ heard of the schools above. Which will make getting the first job harder.

Before I moved to NJ, I have never heard of Seton Hall...

1.) Definitely not hating. I have different priorities in life. I truly meant it when I said it's great that you're that fortunate.

2.) Why even bring up what YOU would do if it's not relatable in any way to the average person?

3.) I do see it as gloating and showing off in bad taste, but whatever. This conversation is over.

if you think the conversation is over, stop responding. im not obligated to determine whether or not what i do is relatable to others. i think my situation is relatable even if people cant go as far as me. someone else mentioned helping with a down payment. someone else may offer something else according to their abilities. the important detail is that we are willing to sweeten the deal to entice our children to stay. lots of people do that, so it is relatable.

i dont see it as gloating but im not surprised that someone who i assume doesnt have the means to do it would categorize it as such. instead of being upset by what others can do, just focus on what you can do.

Why eww Rutgers?

Minus the fact it's in New Brunswick, it's alright.
